Daniel 5:23 – Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways.
That’s some scary stuff people. How many of us have done this very thing? We may not drink wine from goblets brought from the temple, we may not have concubines, we may not be nobles, but for a second, just think about how many times you have adored the created thing instead of the Creator. We may praise the work of our hands, with pride. We may praise our car, our house, our job, our money, any of a hundred different things that cannot see, or hear, or understand… and in the doing set ourselves up against the Lord of Heaven. In our frail and small understanding of the universe, we have may have pitted ourselves against the God that created from a word, the thing we can’t understand. Might seem kind of heavy, but don’t think for a second that God limits himself to Monday morning. He sees, He hears, HE understands.
